HSBC Online Banking activation

We're currently making improvements to our Online Banking service.

If you registered for Online Banking prior to the 17th December 2014 it's not possible for you to activate your existing Secure Key and you will need to re-start your registration.

If you registered for Online Banking after this date, please log on to Online Banking entering your username, memorable answer and your password, from here you will be prompted to activate your Secure Key.

We apologise for any inconvenience which this delay may cause. Once you are registered, we look forward to introducing you to Online Banking, including the exciting enhancements we're working on now.

Before you begin

You will need

  • Your HSBC sort code and account number, your credit card number or your InvestDirect account number


  • Your telephone banking security number - Before using Online Banking for the first time we require you to set-up a six to ten digit Telephone Banking Security Number. You may have already used it to identify yourself when telephoning us.

With our secure Online Banking service you can:

  • Make payments and transfers
  • Check your balance
  • Update your contact information
  • Transfer money between your accounts
  • View and download statements
  • Set up and amend standing orders


During registration you'll be asked to choose and set up a Secure Key

Both HSBC Online Banking and the HSBC UK Mobile Banking app are protected by an additional layer of security when you log on with your Secure Key. This gives you extra protection against online fraud and identity theft.

Use your phone or tablet

Set up a Digital Secure Key, on your compatible device.

This will give you full access to Online Banking as soon as you complete registration and log on.

Order a Secure Key device

If you don't have a compatible device or don't want a Digital Secure Key, we can give you a physical Secure Key for delivery when you register for Online Banking or collect it when you register in a branch.
